Hawks make front office hires, president search ongoing

The two hires today will report to general manager Onsi Saleh.

It has been a long, seven-week long venture to get to this point, but the Hawks have made a couple of hires — just not the one that has been most in focus.

On April 21, the Hawks dismissed general manager Landry Fields and promoted assistant general manager Onsi Saleh to the former’s same position. On the same day, they indicated that a search had begun to fill the empty president of basketball operations position.

Now today, Shams Charania of ESPN broke the news of two hires that will report directly to Saleh going forward:

The Atlanta Hawks and new General Manager Onsi Saleh are finalizing deals to hire New Orleans Pelicans GM Bryson Graham as the team’s Senior VP of Basketball Operations and Philadelphia 76ers executive Peter Dinwiddie as Senior VP of Strategy and Analytics, sources tell ESPN. pic.twitter.com/Mm9haiGQyN

Bryson Graham comes to the Hawks on the heels of a long career in the Pelicans organization having worked his way up the organizational structure since joining as an intern in 2010. Peter Dinwiddie has a similar story of career advancement, albeit across multiple NBA franchises. He comes most recently from the Sixers organization under both president Daryl Morey and general manager Elton Brand who have led the front office over the past several years.

The Hawks and the Pelicans franchises have been tied together over the past year after the execution of a trade that sent Dejounte Murray to New Orleans in return for Dyson Daniels, Larry Nance Jr., E.J. Liddell, Cody Zeller, and two first-round picks — one of which became the 22nd overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

The moves leave Saleh as the top-ranking member in the front office for the time being, although Lauren Williams of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the president search is still progressing:

Per league source, the Hawks are still on the hunt for a President of Basketball Ops. That search has not concluded with the news of the finalization of deals with Bryson Graham and Peter Dinwidde.
