Hawks Rising Star Showcasing His Versatility

December 1, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

The Atlanta Hawks didn’t extend Dyson Daniels just because he’s young and talented. They committed to Dyson Daniels showcasing his versatility on both ends of the floor. On any given night, he can initiate the offense, rebound like a wing, defend at an elite level, and still find ways to score without dominating the ball. That all-around impact, capped by him winning Most Improved Player award last season, is exactly what this roster needed and a major reason his new contract already looks like a smart investment.

Hawks Rising Star Showcasing His Versatility

From the moment he checks in, Daniels’ versatility changes the feel of the game. Offensively, he doesn’t hunt shots. Instead, he picks his spots, attacks open lanes, and keeps the ball moving. When defenses load up on Trae Young or Jalen Johnson, Daniels slips into open space, cuts backdoor, or drives hard to the rim. His scoring comes within the flow, which makes Daniels’ versatility easy to blend into different lineups.

The Hawks rely on Daniels as a connector. He can bring the ball up, call out a set, and then swing it to the second side. When the shot is there, he takes it. When it isn’t, he turns drives into kick-outs, lobs, or dump-offs. That balance helps stabilize the offense, especially when opponents trap Atlanta’s primary creators. In those moments, Daniels showcasing his versatility as both a handler and spacer keeps the possession alive.

His performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers last night was a clean example. Daniels filled the box score with points, rebounds, assists, and timely steals. He pushed the pace, found shooters, and finished plays at the rim. It was another game that showed Daniels’ all-around skill set against a quality opponent and reminded everyone why Atlanta trusts him in big moments.

Scoring, Playmaking, and Rebounding in One Package

What really makes Dyson Daniels’ versatility stand out is how his box score never tells just one story. Some nights the scoring pops. Other nights it’s the passing, rebounding, or defense that jumps out. The common theme is impact.

He rebounds his position well and often ends defensive possessions himself. When he grabs the board and pushes the break, the Hawks can run without wasting time on an outlet pass. Those grab-and-go sequences turn into early offense and drive-and-kick threes. That is another place where Daniels showcasing his versatility quietly lifts the entire group.

As a passer, he reads the floor with poise. Daniels thrives on quick, simple reads: hit the corner, drop it to the dunker spot, or swing it for the extra pass. His assists come from timing and spacing, not forced highlights. When the Hawks need another playmaker, his versatility lets him slide into that role without disrupting anyone else.

Defensively, he sets the tone. Daniels fights over screens, moves with shifty guards, and uses his size on bigger wings. His active hands create deflections and steals that lead to fast breaks and ease the load on the bigs.

All of this explains why the Hawks moved quickly to sign Daniels to a contract extension. It was never just about what he is now. It was about Daniels showcasing his versatility and what that unlocks for the roster. Games like the one against Cleveland are a preview of how valuable a do-it-all guard can be for a team with real ambitions.
