Heat won’t make aggressive push for Dejounte Murray

January 17, 2024 by Hoops Hype

While Yahoo reported last week that Miami and the underachieving Atlanta Hawks had a preliminary conversation about guard Dejounte Murray (a 2022 All Star and 2018 All NBA Defense selection), neither Miami nor any team has offered the two first-round picks that the Hawks have requested, as reported this week by The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor. One person in touch with the Heat’s front office expressed skepticism about the likelihood of the Heat making a particularly aggressive push for Murray, without knowing for sure what Miami would do.

“I know what the main goal is. The main goal is today. Today I’m an Atlanta Hawk and that’s all that matters. Help do my job and try to get a win. That’s the most important,” #Hawks guard Dejounte Murray to @andscape on his focus amidst trade rumors. bit.ly/3O6OcLn – 11:03 AM

My take on Dejounte Murray, Nets rumors:
I’d seriously consider it if the cost is as low as one 1st-round pick and salary fillers. That’s the kind of add Brooklyn should be looking to make this season, if any.
A chance to revitalize Murray’s value. Door open to flip him later. – 2:33 PM

More on this storyline

Brian Windhorst on Dejounte Murray: ‘The more I look at this Dejounte Murray situation, even if he’s not the absolute perfect fit for the Lakers, I do think it makes more sense, as I’d more to talk about why they would be interested in that trade. -via Apple Podcasts / January 17, 2024
NetsDaily: Told Nets do have interest in Dejounte Murray. As Brian Windhorst noted, keep an eye on Brooklyn. -via Twitter @NetsDaily / January 17, 2024
“I grew up around my great aunt who lived to 107 years old,” Murray, 27, told Andscape before a 109-99 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. “She witnessed that time [in the Civil Rights Movement]. Playing on MLK Day means a lot, just knowing his message that he was trying to push. Basically, that message is believing in yourself. Don’t allow nobody else to tell you what you can or cannot be and don’t be afraid to speak your mind.” -via Andscape / January 16, 2024
