John Collins Reportedly Makes Decision On His Next NBA Team

August 5, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

John Collins is introduced ahead of an Atlanta Hawks game.

After four solid seasons with the Atlanta Hawks on a rookie contract, forward John Collins became a restricted free agent. And today, Collins made a decision on which team he’ll be playing for in the upcoming season.

According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Collins has agreed to a five-year, $125 million deal to stay with the Hawks. Per the report, the deal includes a player option for the fifth year.

Collins has yet to make the All-Star Game in four years in Atlanta, but he’s been coming close. This past year his numbers dipped from the previous two, averaging 17.6 points and 7.4 rebounds a game.

In the 2021 NBA playoffs though, Collins proved to be invaluable as the Hawks reached the Eastern Conference Finals. He had five double-doubles in 18 starts and six games of at least 19 points.

The Atlanta Hawks took John Collins with the 19th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft following two years at Wake Forest. He had a solid rookie season, getting an NBA All-Rookie Second-Team selection and continued to thrive afterwards.

Over the next three seasons, Collins would solidify himself as the Hawks’ starting power forward. Between 2018 and 2020, he averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds and two assists per game.

Along with stellar point guard Trae Young, it’s clear that Atlanta have a good core of players that they can build around.

And right now, it looks like Collins will be a part of that build well into the prime of his career.
