Kristaps Porzingis said he wasn’t in a hurry to sign a contract extension with the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday.
“I know that’s an option. I wanna see how the year goes,” Porzingis told Fred Katz of The Athletic. “I wanna show that I’m playing at a high level again, that I’m healthy, that I’m everything, and then that kind of stuff will take care of itself.”
The 30-year-old, who was traded to the Hawks in the offseason, is eligible for a contract extension this season.
Porzingis could command an extension as high as $43 million a year.
Porzingis added that he feels “great” after suffering from a virus during last year’s playoffs.
Dyson Daniels remains eligible for an extension until October 21, with Trae Young eligible to sign an extension all season.
