The Los Angeles Lakers are almost certain to pursue an upgrade at center this offseason following their rescinded trade for Mark Williams. The Lakers offered Luka Doncic a list of centers to target and it is believed Onyeka Okongwu was also on it.
“Before the Mark Williams trade, and I can’t tell you all the names on that list that Rob Pelinka presented to Luka, [but] I do know that the Lakers made a call to the Hawks around the trade deadline about Okongwu,” said Dave McMenamin on the Straight Fire podcast with Jason McIntyre.
Okongwu is signed through the 27-28 season and is from the Los Angeles area. Okongwu averaged 13.4 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 27.9 minutes per game. The Hawks are not expected to re-sign Clint Capela in the offseason, which will make him the full time starter at center.
