The Atlanta Hawks (35-30) will host the Portland Trail Blazers (36-28) Monday evening as both teams continue to jockey for playoff seeding in their respective conference. Coming into play, the Hawks sit as the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference. They have the same record as the Miami Heat, but hold the tiebreak over them due to winning the season series 2-1.
Portland was now won four in a row after a brief skid in April, but they will be on the second half of a back-to-back after beating the Boston Celtics on Sunday. The Trail Blazers are the No. 6 seed in the West, and will be hungry to continue their roll towards the finish line to avoid the play-in.
Both Atlanta and Portland are 5-5 over their last 10 games as each team has struggled to stay healthy late in the rigorous closing stretch of the condensed 72-game schedule. Both Damian Lillard and Trae Young have been banged up somewhat of late, but appear to be back to form as both are now completely off their team’s respective injury reports.
The Hawks and Blazers are similar in that they are both stronger on the offensive end of the floor, but Portland has much more drastic splits. The Blazers are fifth in the NBA in offensive rating, but 29th on the defensive end. Atlanta meanwhile is tenth in offensive rating and 21st in defense. The Hawks are No. 13 in the league in overall net rating (+1.1), while the Blazers are No. 14 (+0.7).
For Atlanta, Bogdan Bogdanovic (left hamstring soreness) is probable to return to the lineup, while Tony Snell (right ankle sprain) is questionable. De’Andre Hunter (right knee soreness) and Cam Reddish (right Achilles soreness) remain out.
Zach Collins (ankle) remains out for Portland.
The Hawks open as a 2-point favorite over the Blazers as of early Monday morning, as they again do have the rest advantage and have been home for multiple days now. Portland is in the midst of an east coast road adventure. For what it’s worth, the Blazers are 4-1 in their last four road games against the spread.
