The Atlanta Hawks visited Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Knicks on Wednesday evening and, for three quarters, the mood was generally positive for the visiting team. Atlanta held a lead in the final moments of the third period but, with 1:13 to go, star point guard Trae Young suffered an injury that saw him writhing in pain.
Young needed help to exit the floor, and he was immediately led to the locker room for further evaluation.

Moments after Young exited, the Hawks announced that he would miss the rest of the game with what the team is calling a left ankle sprain.
Young is the unquestioned centerpiece of the Hawks, leading the team in averaging 25.4 points and 9.5 assists per game and serving as the central creator of a high-powered offense. As such, any absence would be a considerable negative for Atlanta on the court but, beyond any basketball impact, the overarching hope is that Young’s injury is minor in nature.
