With Georgia Tech hitting seven homers in their win over Cal, it’s only fitting that Drew Compton homered twice in a Clingstones sweep

(21-27) Gwinnett Stripers 1, (21-26) Louisville Bats 5

  • Jarred Kelenic, CF: 0-for-3, BB, .278/.387/.418
  • James McCann, C: 0-for-4, .293/.330/.457
  • Cade Bunnell, 1B: 1-for-3 HR, RBI, R, .179/.337/.359
  • Nathan Wiles, SP: 4IP 8H 3ER 2BB 4K, 2.68 ERA
  • Jhancarlos Lara, RP: 1IP 0H 0R 1BB 1K, 6.75 ERA

Box Score

The Stripers were on the wrong side of a dominant bullpen game as the Louisville Bats utilized five pitchers who combined to give up just one hit while striking out nine (and walking four). The only blemish of the game was this Cade Bunnell absolute tank shot.

CALL THE NATIONAL GUARD. CADE BUNNELL JUST OBLITERATED A BASEBALL.

Nathan Wiles was okay – needing 88 pitches to get through four innings. Enoli Paredes, Jhancarlos Lara, and Jesse Chavez all registered a scoreless innings of work for the Stripers as well.

(21-20) Montgomery Biscuits 2, (19-21) Columbus Clingstones 3

  • Ethan Workinger, RF: 0-for-2, BB, R, .242/.331/.516
  • David McCabe, 1B: 0-for-3, .262/.392/.393
  • Drew Compton, DH: 2-for-3, HR, R, 2 RBI, .262/.328/.336
  • Kobe Kato, 2B: 1-for-3, RBI, .197/.287/.276
  • Blake Burkhalter, SP: 6IP 4H 2ER 0BB 3K, 3.18 ERA

Box Score

Brilliantly pitched game by both teams as the 7 inning game took just 1 hour and 44 minutes to complete. Blake Burkhalter scattered four hits across six innings only really coming into real trouble in the top of the sixth when he gave up a two run homer. He lowered his season ERA to 3.18 now and has looked really good this season with his impressive cutter leading the way. Blane Abeyta came in and absolutely shut it done striking out two in the final inning of the game.

It was the Drew Compton show on offense as he scored the first run of the game in the first inning with an RBI single scoring Ethan Workinger. He then added a homer in the fourth to make it 2-0.

With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Kobe Kato hit this walk off single to give the Clingstones the win in Game 1.

(20-21) Columbus Clingstones 4, (21-21) Montgomery Biscuits 0

  • Drew Compton, 2-for-3, HR, BB, 2R, .274/.343/.371
  • Geraldo Quintero, 2B: 2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI, R, .214/.316/.449
  • Keshawn Ogans, 3B: 2-for-2, R, BB, .190/.321/.222
  • Landon Harper, SP: 5IP 2H 0R 0BB 8K, 1.91 ERA
  • Luis Vargas, RP: 1IP 0H 0R 0BB 2K, 4.76 ERA
  • Elison Joseph, RP: 1IP 0H 0R 0BB 1K, 3.68 ERA

Box Score

The Clingstones would sweep the double hitter aided by an absolutely dominant pitching performance by a trio of pitchers. Landon Harper, Luis Vargas, and Elison Joseph combined to give up just two hits while walking none and striking out 11. It was so dominant that the Biscuits had just four runners in scoring position the entire night. It was so dominant that the three needed a combined 96 pitches for a full nine innings.

The Clingstones needed one but scored four. Geraldo Quintero had a big game 2-for-3 with a two run homer. Drew Compton continued his strong day with another homer in game 2.

A special section dedicated to Landon Harper who is having a superb 2025 season. He’s played different roles for the Clingstones (starter and reliever) and has excelled in both. On the season he’s made 10 appearances and has a 1.91 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and a fantastic 1.09 BB/9 rate. He’s been special this season.

(22-21) Rome Emperors 1, (22-20) Hub City Spartanburgers 2

  • Patrick Clohisy, CF: 1-for-3, 2B, RBI, BB, .260/.384/.384
  • Titus Dumitru, LF: 1-for-4, .280/.337/.401
  • Riley Frey, SP: 6IP 3H 1ER 2BB 6K, 3.67 ERA
  • Cory Wall, RP: 2.2IP 1H 1ER 1BB 4K, 0.93 ERA

Box Score

Another brilliantly pitched game by both teams in a game that takes 2 hours and 29 minutes. Riley Frey with yet another really good start – this time going six and giving up just a single earned run. A fifth inning homer was the only real damage done against him as he faced little real traffic as the Spartanburgers had just four runners in scoring position throughout the entire game. Cory Wall came in and pitched well on his own as he was almost able to get through the games final three innings but left the game with two runners on but two outs. Unfortunately Rob Griswold came in and walked the first batter he saw to load the bases, and then gave up a single to walk it off for the Spartanburgers.

There isn’t much to talk about offensively as the Emperors had three total hits. This Patrick Clohisy double scoring Lizandro Espinoza was the only clear threat they had.

Will Verdung had a triple in the top of the fourth but was stranded there.

(19-23) Charleston RiverDogs 2, (22-19) Augusta GreenJackets 5

  • Isaiah Drake, RF: 3-for-4, 3B, R, .272/.342/.397
  • Owen Carey, CF: 1-for-4, 2B, .302/.381/.430
  • Mason Guerra, 1B: 2-for-4, HR, R, 3 RBI, .230/.333/.459
  • Luis Sanchez, 3B: 2-for-4, R, .230/.350/.294
  • Jeremy Reyes, SP: 3IP 1H 1R 0ER 1BB 2K, 2.03 ERA

Box Score

After going down 1-0 in the second inning it was all GreenJackets with some big games from significant prospects. First off, Jeremy Reyes made the start and went three innings – striking out two. His fastball is sitting in the high-90s now but it is interesting to see the Braves be so cautious with him as he’s made a few starts since returning from the IL but they are still throttling his pitches. While there was never an injury designation, your first thought goes to shoulder injury (which is what he struggled with last season).

Alen Pineda got the scoring going for the GreenJackets with a two run single that scored Mason Guerra and Luis Sanchez. They tacked on three more runs in the next inning with this Mason Guerra three run homer, his fifth of the season upping his OPS to .792 on the season.

THAT BALL HAD A FAMILY!!

Following Jeremy were a trio of arms – David Rodriguez (4IP 1H 0R 0BB 1K), Justin Long (1IP 3H 1ER 1BB 0K), and Jacob Gomez (1IP 0H 0R 0BB 3K) who would shut down the RiverDogs offense and secure the win for the GreenJackets.

(4-9) FCL Red Sox 12, (6-7) FCL Braves 9

  • Jose Perdomo, SS: 2-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, K, .294/.345/.353
  • Junior Garcia, DH: 2-for-4, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, R, .200/.273/.300
  • Juan Mateo, 2B: 2-for-5, 2B, R, .260/.315/.320
  • Amos Willingham, RP: 1.2IP 2H 2ER BB 2K, 6.75 ERA

Box Score

The FCL Braves offense walked nine times and scored nine runs and they found a way to lose thanks to some very rough pitching. The pitching staff combined for ten walks and nine strikeouts. It was a good day for a pair of big bonus international free agents as Jose Perdomo and Junior Garcia combined for four hits and five RBI. Carlos Monteverde also went 1-for-5 and is starting to put together quality game after quality game as he is now hitting .286/.348/.476 since being sent back to the FCL.
