MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Atlanta Braves

It was a big night for offense down in the minors as Augusta, Rome, and Mississippi combined to score 21 runs.

(32-53) Biloxi Shuckers 2 vs. (49-36) Mississippi Braves 8

  • Braden Shewmake, SS: 1-for-4, R, .681 OPS
  • Shea Langeliers, C: 4-for-4, 2B, 2 HR, 3 R, 4 RBI, .886 OPS
  • Drew Lugbauer, DH: 2-for-3, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB, .861 OPS
  • CJ Alexander, 3B: 1-for-4, R, HR, .559 OPS
  • Freddy Tarnok, SP: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 9K, 2.08 ERA

Box Score

What was once a close game quickly got out of hand as the Mississippi Braves overpowered the Shuckers 8-2. Freddy Tarnok made his fourth start of the season for Mississippi and struck out nine over 5 1/3 innings of baseball. His displayed a really good changeup, to go along with his fantastic fastball/curveball command and it definitely showed. His fastball looked fantastic, sitting in the mid-90s with absolute ease and his curveball had it’s super sharp movement showing you exactly what the Braves would hope he would turn into. Troy Bacon and Sean McLaughlin would hold it down the rest of the way with neither of them giving up a run.

As for the offense it was propelled by two players in particular: Shea Langeliers, and Drew Lugbauer. Both, having fantastic seasons, would go a combined 6-for-7 with four homers, seven runs batted in, a double, and five runs scored. In the bottom of the sixth, Shea and Drew would go back-to-back, both for the second homers of the game.

CJ Alexander would add a homer of his own, his ninth of the season, in the bottom of the seventh inning. Greyson Jenista picked up two walks as well.

(37-48) Rome Braves 7 vs. (39-45) Hickory Crawdads 8

  • Jesse Franklin V, CF: 4-for-5, HR (2), 2B, 4 RBI, 3 R, .870 OPS
  • Beau Philip, 2B: 4-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, R, SB, .601 OPS
  • Brett Langhorne, 1B: 2-for-4, 2B, R, .573 OPS
  • Jared Shuster, SP: 4.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 3.71 ERA
  • Luke Waddell, 3B: 1-for-4, 2 R, BB, .598 OPS

Box Score

Rome dropped a closely contested battle to the Hickory Crawdads in a game where both bullpens struggled mightily – giving up a combined 10 runs. Jared Shuster got the start and struck out five over four innings and once again showed his fantastic command by not giving up a single walk and lowering his walk rate to 2.03 per nine while holding Hickory to two runs. Unfortunately once Jared came out things got a bit crazy as Mitch Stallings gave up a homer, two walks, and three runs in his one inning of work. Marrick Crouse would replace Stallings and gave up a pair of runs in his 1 1/3 innings of work while also walking a pair himself. Justin Yeager would work the final 1 2/3 innings of the game but picked up the loss while surrendering a pair of walks and an unearned run that was the difference in the game caused by an error by the catcher.

Offensively it was Jesse Franklin V, and Beau Philip that tried to propel the Rome Braves to a win as they combined to go 8-for-9 with three homers, six RBI, and four runs. Brett Langhorne, and Riley Delgado also had multi-hit games of their own with Brett picking up his seventh double of the year and scoring a run. The game was unfortunately not on milb.tv so there is not much footage of it.

(26-59) Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 1 vs. (35-50) Augusta Greenjackets 5

  • Vaughn Grissom, SS: 2-for-4, R, RBI, .827 OPS
  • Cade Bunnell, DH: 1-for-4, R, RBI, .793 OPS
  • Cal Conley, 2B: 0-for-4, R, .369 OPS
  • Tanner Gordon, SP: 7.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 10 K, 3.43 ERA
  • Rolddy Munoz, RP: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 6.17 ERA

Box Score

Augusta would win tonight with relative ease thanks to an absolutely fantastic pitching performance by starting pitcher Tanner Gordon. Gordon would give up just three hits, including a solo homer, one walk, and would strike out 10 Cannon Ballers. To make things worse for Kannapolis they were also subjects to the Rolddy Munoz show who would give up just one single, while striking out four, and walking none(!!!!!) for a dominating performance by the Augusta pitching staff.

At one point Kannapolis lead this game 1-0 and it looked like it could have ended that way if not for the fifth inning. If you take a look at the box score, outside of Vaughn, there weren’t many great performances which makes it weird for it to be a 5-1 game. Well, all five runs came in the bottom of the fifth, all on singles. The sequence was: GO, 2B, 1B, Error, 1B, 1B, FO, 1B, LO. The Greenjackets offense was pretty much held in check outside of that fifth inning. Stephen Paolini went 1-for-3 with his ninth double and had a nice play in the field.

Does anyone know how to wash out grass stains? ️
