Marisnick gets two games for plate collision
Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick has been suspended two games and issued an undisclosed fine after he collided with Angels catcher Jonathan Lucroy. Marisnick was called out on the play but Lucroy suffered a broken nose and a possible concussion.
Cardinals Place Yadier Molina On 10-Day IL; Activate Matt Carpenter
Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina will begin the second half on the injured list due to a strained tendon in his right thumb. Surgery won’t be required but Molina is expected to miss about three weeks with the injury. St. Louis activated third baseman Matt Carpenter from the injured list to take Molina’s spot on the roster.
Jake Arrieta To Pitch Through Injury – For Now
Phillies pitcher Jake Arrieta is dealing with a bone spur in his elbow but will try to pitch through the pain while the team continues to evaluate his health.
Ortiz has third surgery after complications
Former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz underwent a third surgery due to complications from the gunshot wound he suffered last month in the Dominican Republic. Details of what the complications are were not disclosed but he is said to be recovering well.
