Mark Bowman has an update on the Braves starting third baseman, who went onto the Injured List with a strained right abdomen ten days ago in St. Louis.
The Braves won’t activate Riley today. Might wait until Friday. There’s no reason to rush his return at this point.

The Braves, per Mark Bowman, won’t return to the lineup or active roster for today’s game versus the Giants. Riley, who has a .274/.324/.441 line this season with a 112 wRC+ (and an adventure in the field at times) and a 153 wRC+ in July, is being deputized by Nacho Alvarez Jr. While it’s good to see the young prospect get a run in the Major Leagues, the Braves can’t replace Austin Riley’s bat.
Mark Bowman did not hint as to the severity of the injury or status of the recovery, only added that “there’s no reason to rush” him right now. Bowman has been telling it like it is during this season, and he’s not wrong.
