As the Braves’ offense continues to flounder, the pitching has done what it can to keep the team afloat.
As they approach the halfway point of the season, the Atlanta Braves continue their search for answers at the plate.
On the mound, however, is a different story.
While veterans Max Fried and Chris Sale have picked up baton for the injured Spencer Strider, the most surprising and welcome addition to the rotation continues to prove his worth. Reynaldo Lopez has transitioned from reliever to starter, owns the best ERA in MLB, and continues to spin quality starts. The Braves are also using some of their top prospects to take some wear and tear off their veteran starters. Will that ultimately help keep all these arms fresh?
Meanwhile, the offense’s struggles are well-documented and have yet to truly course correct. It still feels like a matter of time for many of Atlanta’s talented hitters to turn things around, but the waiting game has been a long one. Could the Braves make a big splash at the trade deadline? White Sox start outfielder Luis Robert is a notable name on the rumor mill and would be an intriguing possibility for a club looking for more firepower.
