Atlanta will be taking on Milwaukee and the weather in what is shaping up to be a soggy week.
The Atlanta Braves return home after another wretched road trip to face the National League Central front-running Milwaukee Brewers. It will be the first of an eight-games-in-seven-days home stand that includes a five-game series with the Miami Marlins.
This past weekend’s MLB Speedway Classic created a rain-impacted, two-day affair, but did provide the fan base with a couple of feel-good moments with Eli White’s two-home run performance and Hurston Waldrep’s 5.2 innings of one-run outing.
Returning to Atlanta, the Braves will have unseasonably cool temperatures welcoming them home with highs expected to be in the 70s on Monday and Tuesday making it feel more like April than August. There is also a chance of rain all week, so keep an eye on that.
Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy has the the Brewers in the thick of the NL Central race having had the best record in baseball for much of the past few weeks. The Chicago Cubs are on their heels, making this series a must-win for a Milwaukee team whose offense is paced by former Atlanta Braves All-Star William Contreras and former MVP Christian Yelich but is without young star outfielder Jackson Chourio who hit the IL last week.
Milwaukee’s pitching staff is fantastic and netted them three All-Stars including closer Trevor Megill and starters Freddy Peralta and rookie Jacob Misiorowski, who was placed on the IL just days ago. Even with Misiorowski missing time, the Brewers have a pitching staff with above average depth in both their rotation and bullpen.
For Atlanta, well, they are playing for pride and not much else. The Braves did take two-out-of-three games against the Brewers in Milwaukee back in early June, so there’s that.
