Braves acquire Eddie Rosario from Cleveland for Pablo Sandoval

Braves adding another outfielder to the mix

The Atlanta Braves have been quiet in the lead up to the trade deadline but have now moved to strengthen their outfield. The Braves have acquired Eddie Rosario from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for infielder Pablo Sandoval. Cleveland will send along some money to cover part of Rosario’s remaining contract.

Rosario is currently on the injured list with an abdominal injury and is expected to miss a couple of more weeks. He appeared in 78 games with the Indians prior to the injury and was hitting .254/.296/.389 with seven home runs. He was in the group of outfielders who were available this offseason that signed one year deals.

Once healthy, the Braves will be hoping that Rosario can fill one of the corner outfield spots and provide some offensive punch for the stretch run. The team also acquired outfielder Adam Duvall in a trade with the Marlins and he and Rosario could combine for a platoon situation in left field.

The Indians also sent along some cash in the deal to help cover the approximate $2.5 million remaining on Rosario’s deal.
