Atlanta is sending cash considerations to the Red Sox in exchange for Short
The Atlanta Braves have announced another trade Thursday. The Braves acquired infielder Zack Short from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations. Short had been designated for assignment by the Red Sox earlier this week. Atlanta also traded Luis Guillorme to the Angels Thursday.

Short began the 2024 season with the Mets with whom he appeared in 10 games while going 1-for-9 at the plate. The Red Sox acquired him from New York on May 1 in another cash deal. He appeared in two games and was 0-for-7 at the plate. He is another utility player type that has experience in the middle infield and has played in the outfield in the past. He’s a right-handed hitter and is out of options. Short has appeared in 191 games in his major league career and has a .169/.262/.299 line with a 55 wRC+ in 469 plate appearances.
When Atlanta traded Guillorme, it appeared that it might open the door for a return of David Fletcher to the active roster. Instead it now appears that the Braves will kick the tires on Short at least initially. Atlanta will begin a three-game series in New York Friday.
