Atlanta picks up another swingman
The Braves have made a minor trade for some more help at the multiple inning relief pitcher spot this evening.
The #Braves tonight acquired RHP Dane Dunning from the Texas Rangers in exchange for RHP José Ruiz and cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, Atlanta designated RHP Jesse Chavez for assignment.

The Braves have acquired righty Dane Dunning from the Rangers for RHP Jose Ruiz and cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, Jesse Chavez has been designated for assignment. It appears to be a move to gain more length in the bullpen. Dunning is also another pitcher with options, per Fangraphs.
Dane has a career 4.34/4.40/4.20 line over a sizeable 583.1 innings over 6 seasons. He has made 102 starts in his career and has posted 1.9 and 2.0 WAR seasons, winning 12 games in 2023. He sports a 94 MPH sinker, a cutter, a changeup, and the occasional slider and curveball. I’ve seen him pitch in a few Double-A games years ago. The first time I saw him, he was throwing a slider which the other Double-A hitters had no idea what to do with. Everything was on the ground or straight up in the air on the infield. He doesn’t throw the slider much nowadays, which is a shame.
There’s a decent chance he absorbs some innings in a bullpen game coming soon. Welcome, Dane!
