Atlanta adds more depth to the bullpen with a former big league reliever.

According to the team’s transaction page, the Atlanta Braves have added pitcher Jose Cuas on a minor league contract. He has been assigned to Double-A Columbus, according to the Clingstones’ transaction page.

Cuas, 30, is a three-year MLB veteran having debuted in 2022 with the Kansas City Royals. He split the 2023 season between the Royals and the Chicago Cubs, pitching in 71 combined games. Last year, he pitched for both the Cubs and the Toronto Blue Jays.

Cuas had been pitching in Triple-A in the Phillies’ organization prior to being released on May 1, 2025.

The right-handed pitcher, whose delivery features a lower arm angle, gained some notoriety earlier this decade due to him working as a FedEx delivery driver during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For his MLB career, Cuas has appeared in 132 games and pitched 119.2 innings. He has a career 4.37 ERA with a xFIP 4.81. He’s struck out more than 22-percent of the batters he has faced in his big league career.

Cuas struggled at Triple-A this season with a sharp decline in his strike-out rate while also seeing his walk rate increase. The Braves will see if time in their organization can catapult Cuas back to the big leagues.
