The veteran reliever adds more depth at Triple-A.
The Atlanta Braves have signed right-handed reliever John Brebbia to a minor league contract, adding additional bullpen depth at Triple-A. Brebbia, 35, had pitched in 19 games with the Detroit Tigers this season before being released by the team last week.
If Brebbia’s name seems familiar, it’s because the Braves added him late last season and he pitched in five games for Atlanta after joining the team on August 31, 2024.
Brebbia has pitched in 373 games during a career that has stretched over parts of eight seasons. This season, he’s seen a significant drop in his strikeout rate while his walk rate has also increased – especially relative to his last few seasons. With the Tigers, he sported a 5.55 xFIP and 4.12 xERA – quite a gap from his 7.71 ERA.
With Atlanta last season, he struck out nine batters in 6.2 innings. He joins a number of experienced big league relievers at Gwinnett, including Wander Suero, Jesse Chavez, Enoli Paredes and Michael Peterson.
