Atlanta’s righty prospect was scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday.
The Atlanta Braves will return home on Thursday where they will begin a four-game series against the Washington Nationals. The Braves have yet to announce their pitching plans for the series in wake of the blister issue that sent Max Fried to the injured list. Julio Teheran was slated to start Thursday’s opener and be followed by Mike Soroka however that could change.
Braves righty prospect Kyle Wright was scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday and could be an option to start Thursday’s game according to MLB.com’s Mark Bowman. That would allow Atlanta to push Teheran and Soroka back a day. Then they could go with Bryse Wilson or perhaps Kevin Gausman for Sunday’s series finale.
Wright has been up and down with the big club but hasn’t thrown an inning in the majors since April 12. He struggled during his brief major league stint and largely early on during his time in Triple-A. However, he appears to be figuring things out lately posting a 1.99 ERA since June 14 while also leading the international league in strikeouts over the span. Wright hasn’t pitched since last Friday in Charlotte where he allowed eight hits and three runs over 6 1/3 innings.
Kevin Gausman is currently on a rehab assignment with Gwinnett and looked strong on Tuesday allowing three hits and two earned runs over seven innings while throwing 104 pitches.
Additionally, the Braves will have to activate Ender Inciarte by Sunday as his rehab time will be up. Inciarte is currently at Gwinnett where he is 6-for-26 at the plate in six games. How the Braves handle Inciarte’s return remains to be seen.
