The move opens a roster spot for Didier Fuentes.
After tonight’s victory over the New York Mets, multiple reporters posted that the Atlanta Braves have designated pitcher Jose Ruiz for assignment. The reliever’s roster spot will most likley go to 20-year-old pitching prospect Didier Fuentes who seems to be in line to make his major league debut Friday as the starting pitcher against the Miami Marlins.

Ruiz was claimed off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies on June 7 and appeared in two games with the Braves, allowing three runs in two innings pitched. In 18 combined games this season, the 30-year-old right-hander has struggled mightily with an ERA of 8.82 allowing 13 earned runs in 14.1 innings will striking out only 12 batters.
As was reported earlier today, Fuentes appear set to make his debut for Atlanta only days after his 20th birthday. He’s already pitched at three minor league levels this season – starting at Rome and ending up with Triple-A Gwinnett where he struck out six in 4.2 innings in his first outing, walking none and allowing only three hits in his only appearance for the Stripers.
