Atlanta and Washington face off for the first time this season.
The Atlanta Braves return home for a four-game series against the Washington Nationals – the first of two match-ups between the teams in next 10 days. Both clubs are in the middle-of-the-pack in the NL East and will be facing each other for the first time this year.
The Braves are coming off a disappointing three-game road time to Pittsburgh where Atlanta’s offense continued to struggle to score runs. Atlanta dropped two-out-of-three to the Pirates, who had fired their manager prior the the series, and entered the weekend with the second-worst recording in the National League.
Atlanta is in the middle of a stretch with no scheduled off-days in 17 days so the team won’t have time to dwell on the Pirates raising the Jolly Roger against them twice during the weekend.
The young Nationals team are led by shortstop C.J. Abrams and outfielder James Woods and pitcher MacKenzie Gore who entered Sunday leading the National League in strikeouts. Washington’s bullpen is suspect, which offers a little hope, even how poorly Atlanta’s offense has been performing.
