Hurston Waldrep aims to extend his streak of well pitches games to 3 after overhauling his mechanics.
Gwinnett Stripers at Louisville Bats – 12:05 PM ET
Probable Starters
GWI: Hurston Waldrep, 4-2 5.77 ERA
LOU: Randy Wynne, 1-4 5.18 ERA
The Stripers will be looking for revenge after a rain shortened loss to the Bats yesterday. Key player to watch remains Ronald Acuña Jr. who was moved to DH before the game yesterday after the threat of rain came in. Look for Ronald to play in the field this afternoon as long as rain doesn’t randomly come out of nowhere. With Ronald at the top, Kelenic and the surging Carlos Rodriguez give the Stripers a dynamic top 3. Add in James McCann who has been hitting the ball well himself will likely slot in at the clean up spot.
The second biggest plot line of the game will be can Hurston Waldrep and his edited mechanics continue to put up numbers. With Hurston limiting his leg lift during his windup he appears a lot more in control of his mechanics and isn’t falling off the mound as regularly as he has been. The result? A pair of his best starts in the season. He’s been able to locate his fastball better and establish it earlier in counts, allowing him to throw the slider and splitter to generate whiffs and put hitters away. It’s a significant change and something to watch as he ritualizes the changes.
Montgomery Biscuits at Columbus Clingstones – 7:05 PM ET
Probable Starters
MON: Owen Wild, 1-2 5.68 ERA
COL: TBA
Columbus delivered their fans a walk off win yesterday including scoring the games final four runs in a great comeback. Slugging outfielder Ethan Workinger and his .871 OPS lead the Clingstones offense which has been better than expected. David McCabe went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk and while the OPS has dipped below .800, he continues to show why the industry was so high on him coming out of college. Behind McCabe is the surging Drew Compton who went 2-for-5 and is hitting .361/.395/.417 over his last 9 games. Geraldo Quintero is another name to watch out for as he has really gotten it going after returning from injury.
Rome Emperors at Hub City Spartanburgers – 6:35 PM ET
Probable Starters
ROM: Herick Hernandez, 0-3 6.67 ERA
HBC: Aidan Curry, 1-1 8.15 ERA
Herick Hernandez looks to turn around a rough start to 2025 as he takes to the mound for the Rome Emperors. A four run eighth inning propelled the Emperors to the win yesterday and look to extend their lead in the SAL South. Patrick Clohisy, Titus Dumitru, and Lizandro Espinoza create a good top 3 of the lineup, with the trio of Will Verdung, E.J. Exposito, and Ambioris Tavarez give the Emperors really good depth for a High-A club. With the addition of Mac Guscette, the Emperors have a really solid lineup who give the team a chance to win every game.
Charleston RiverDogs at Augusta GreenJackets – 7:05 PM ET
Probable Starters
CHA: Trevor Harrison, 3-2 3.69 ERA
AUG: Luke Sinnard, 0-2 1.13 ERA
Luke Sinnard looks to continue his strong 2025 with his seventh start of the season. He’s coming off a particularly great last start (6IP 3H 0R 1BB 9K) against the Fireflies. Players to watch include the lineups top 5 hitters consisting of John Gil, Owen Carey, Eric Hartman, Isaiah Drake, and Nick Montgomery. It will be of significant interest to see how the lineup shakes out today as both John Gil and Nick Montgomery were removed from yesterday’s game.
