Hurston Waldrep is back on the mound as the opponents for the Braves affiliates switch up to start the new week.
Tuesday means a new set of series for the Atlanta Braves farm system. Outside of one set of pitchers, we don’t know who is pitching in any of the six games today for either squad – though the one Braves prospect definitely in action tonight will be Hurston Waldrep, as he tries to keep his positive momentum going.
Gwinnett Stripers vs Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp – 7:05 PM ET
Pitching Probables
GWI: Jose Suarez, 4-2 5.36 ERA
JAX: Connor Gillispie, 1-0 6.48 ERA
The Stripers are back in action with Jacksonville coming to town. In this one Hurston Waldrep is back on the mound. While it hasn’t been the ideal start to the season for Waldrep, some recent changes he has made have led to promising results in his last three starts. Over the last three he has allowed just two runs in each start, going 17.1 innings with 25 strikeouts against just seven walks. His ERA and WHIP were sitting at 7.04 and 2.09 prior to those outings, and are already down to 5.36 and 1.64. This game will give him a chance to continue to bring those numbers even further down.
Columbus Clingstones at Chattanooga Lookouts – 7:15 PM ET
Pitching Probables
CHT: TBD
CLB: TBD
Columbus is heading to Chattanooga for their next series, and with that another chance for David McCabe and Ethan Workinger to continue their early season success as they push for promotion to Triple-A over the next two months. It’s also worth mentioning the recent hot streak of Geraldo Quintero, who has run his OPS up to .807 thanks to his play over the past 28 days. In his last 18 games Quintero is slashing .288/.400/.627 with six of his seven homers on the season, and as many walks as strikeouts.
Rome Emperors vs Asheville Tourists – 7:00 PM ET
Pitching Probables
ROM: TBD
ASH: TBD
The Rome gets to go home to face Asheville in this series, and the emergence of Ambioris Tavarez this year is the focus for this team. Still just 21-years-old Tavarez has become a guy who can get on base at a high rate, posting a .363 OBP – though it would be nice if he was able to tap into a little more power since he has just three doubles and three homers as his extra base hits. Beyond him Patrick Clohisy and Titus Dumitru are other Emperors to watch.
Augusta GreenJackets at Myrtle Beach Pelicans – 7:05 PM ET
Pitching Probables
MB: TBD
AUG: TBD
Augusta takes their high powered offense on the road to face Myrtle Beach for their next series. Isaiah Drake seems to be finally breaking out with a .770 OPS after last year being a lost year for him due to injury and poor play. Drake is coming off a two-hit game that included his third homer of the season on Sunday and will look to build off that momentum here. As always John Gil, Owen Carey, Nick Montgomery, and Eric Hartman are also a part of the very dangerous Augusta lineup that can bite you at the plate or on the bases.
FCL Braves at FCL Pirates – 10:00 AM ET
Pitching Probables
BRA: TBD
PIR: TBD
The FCL team goes to face the Pirates in a doubleheader a day after a 5-1 loss. That game saw Jose Perdomo go hitless, but steal his first base of the season. It is worth noting that former top international signee Diego Benitez continued his recent hot play yesterday, going two for three with a double – accounting for two of the team’s five hits and scoring the lone run.
FCL Braves at FCL Pirates – TBD – Game 2
Pitching Probables
BRA: TBD
PIR: TBD
This is the second game of a doubleheader, replaying the game originally scheduled for May 12th.
