Braves Minor League Preview – 6/17

June 18, 2025 by Talking Chop

MLB: Spring Training-Atlanta Braves at Toronto Blue Jays

Lucas Braun looks to right the ship and help the Clingstones rebound from yesterday’s loss

(26-44) Gwinnett Stripers @ (34-36) Charlotte Knights – 7:04 PM ET

Pitching Probables

GWI: Ian Anderson (1-2, 4.75 ERA)

CHA: Mike Clevinger (1-2, 4.40 ERA)

The Stripers turn to Ian Anderson to rebound from yesterday’s 6-3 loss to the Knights. Ian is coming off three straight starts of at least four walks – a theme for the season as Ian has a 6.8 BB/9 rate to go with his 7.4 K/9 rate. Jurickson Profar, rehabbing with the Gwinnett Stripers following his lengthy PED suspension, went 2-for-3, so it will be interesting to see if he plays today or if the Braves take it slow since he is still suspended until July. Nacho Alvarez Jr. has returned from a wrist injury and really elongates the lineup, especially while he hits behind Jurickson Profar. Add in Jarred Kelenic, Carlos Rodriguez, and James McCann and suddenly the Stripers offense looks a bit stronger. They will face off against former Major League Mike Clevinger who has pitched well over his last two games (11IP 5H 0R 2BB 10K).

(25-35) Columbus Clingstones @ (33-30) Birmingham Barons – 6:00 PM ET

Pitching Probables

COL: Lucas Braun (3-2, 4.71 ERA)

BIR: TBD

The Clingstones turn to Lucas Braun to rebound from yesterday’s loss and to set the tone for a double header. Lucas has struggled his past couple of starts with command on, well pretty much all of his pitches, so look for him to hopefully right the ship. The trio of Ethan Workinger (.771 OPS), David McCabe (.759 OPS), and Drew Compton (.707 OPS) are the the teams’ strongest hitters with Drew having come off a marvelous performance last night (2-for-3 2B, HR, BB, RBI, R). After starting off in Double-A super strong, E.J. Exposito has slowed down a bit but he and Geraldo Quintero are the teams x-factors.

(25-35) Columbus Clingstones @ (32-30) Birmingham Barons – Game 2

Pitching Probables

COL: TBD

BIR: TBD

(29-35) Rome Emperors @ (34-40) Winston-Salem Dash – 6:30 PM ET

Pitching Probables

ROM: Jacob Kroeger (0-1, 4.76 ERA)

WSD: TBD

The Emperors turn to Jacob Kroeger to follow up from a very impressive win last night highlighted by Herick Hernandez (7.1IP 2H 2ER 1BB 9K) putting up his best start of the season. Jacob is coming off of a good start of his own (5.2IP 6H 3ER 1BB 11K) against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. The Emperors offense exploded for 9 runs on 15 hits yesterday and the attack was led by Titus Dumitru and Keshawn Ogans. Others players to watch include Patrick Clohisy (.683 OPS), and Will Verdung (.736 OPS)

(41-23) Lynchburg Hillcats @ (32-30) Augusta GreenJackets – 7:05 PM ET

Pitching Probables

LYN: Melkis Hernandez (6-1, 3.02 ERA)

AUG: TBD

The GreenJackets took game one last night against a crazy hot Hillcats team in an excellently pitched bullpen game. The GreenJackets return Elio Campos who was very strong back in 2023 and now have an intriguing player throughout the entire lineup. The top of the lineup featuring Gil, Carey, Drake, Jones, Guerra have been the most consistent over the season while Montgomery, Campos, Glod, and Steels all have intriguing tools of their own.
