Taking a look at Tuesday’s new series for the Braves affiliates.
The Atlanta Braves minor league affiliates are set to start a new group of matchups to start the week off on Tuesday.
Gwinnett Stripers at Norfolk Tides – 6:35 PM ET
Pitching Probables
GWI: Hurston Waldrep (5-5, 5.84 ERA)
NOR: TBD
It’s Hurston Waldrep day for Gwinnett as they move to Norfolk to start a new series. The way his season has gone, you never know what to expect, as he has mixed flashes of dominance with real battles with his command. He along with Jurickson Profar, in a rehab stint as he returns from suspension, and Nacho Alvarez, who just recently got back to Triple-A to start his season out after an injury, are the three guys worth keeping a close eye on.
Columbus Clingstones vs Biloxi Shuckers – 7:05 PM ET
Pitching Probables
COL: TBD
BIL: Tyson Hardin (1-0, 3.00 ERA)
The Clingstones come home to face off with Biloxi again. The duo of David McCabe and Ethan Workinger has slowed a bit recently, though Drew Compton has helped to pick up some of the slack with his hot bat over the last few weeks.
Rome Emperors vs Greenville Drive – 7:00 PM ET
Pitching Probables
ROM: Herick Hernandez (1-4, 5.37 ERA)
GRE: TBD
Herick Hernandez is on the bump to take on Greenville in this new home series. The season has been a mixed bag for Hernandez so far, though we have seen flashes of why the Braves liked the lefty out of Miami so much in last year’s draft. Patrick Clohisy, Ambioris Tavarez, and Will Verdung are the three bats who are most worth watching closely.
Augusta GreenJackets at Fayetteville Woodpeckers – 6:35 PM ET
Pitching Probables
FAY: TBD
AUG: TBD
Augusta takes to the road to face Fayetteville. With the pitchers not yet set for this one, the focus will be on the Augusta lineup featuring Owen Carey, John Gil, Colby Jones, Mason Guerra, and Nick Montgomery – along with a resurgent Douglas Glod.
FCL Braves vs FCL Twins – 12:00 PM ET
Pitching Probables
TWI: TBD
BRA: TBD
The FCL team currently has Luis Guanipa on a rehab assignment, which gives even more reason to pay close attention to this team as Guanipa gets ready to get going again. Eric Hartman is also here on rehab assignment from Augusta in his return from injury. Jose Perdomo and Juan Mateo are also some of the bats to watch.
DSL Braves at DSL A’s – 11:00 AM ET
Pitching Probables
A’s: TBD
BRA: TBD
The guy to watch here is most clearly Diego Tornes, the top international signing by the Braves last year. He got off to a fairly slow start with a .459 OPS through his first six games – though some bad luck on batted balls has been part of that. However he now has a .962 OPS thanks to a slash of .538/.613/.846 over his last seven games, including two doubles, three triples, nine steals, and as many walks as strikeouts in that time. This kid has everything needed to be special, and has just been going off on helpless DSL pitching staffs over the last 10 days.
