Braun tossed six innings of one-run ball for the Clingstones
(40-60) Gwinnett Stripers 1, (52-46) Memphis Redbirds 3
- Luke Waddell, SS: 1-3, R, BB
- Matthew Batten, 1B: 1-3, BB
- Jhancarlos Lara, SP: 3 IP, 2 H, 4 K
Despite getting a solid spot start from Jhancarlos Lara after Hurston Waldrep was scratched, Gwinnett came up on the wrong end in this one, losing to Memphis by a 3-1 final.
Lara stepped up by completing three innings of shutout ball, striking out four in the process to hold Memphis off the board. Offensively, however, the Stripers struggled for the most part.
Gwinnett actually scored first as Luke Waddell scampered home on a wild pitch from old friend Roddery Munoz to make it a 1-0 game.
After Lara exited the game, Enoli Paredes came on and tossed a pair of scoreless frames. In the bottom of the sixth, Blake Burkhalter — who has recently made the move to the bullpen in an effort to manage his innings — came on and gave up three runs on four hits as the Redbirds took a 3-1 lead.
That score would hold as the final despite the Stripers loading the bases in the top of the eighth.
(37-53) Columbus Clingstones 2, (50-39) Chattanooga Lookouts 6 (Completion of July 24 game)
- Adam Zebrowski, C: 2-4
- Kobe Kato, 2B: 1-4, 2B, RBI
- Landon Harper, SP: 0 IP, 5 H, 4 ER
No matter how bad your Friday night was, there’s a good chance it was much better than Landon Harper’s. The righty failed to record a single out in this one as he was chased in the first inning after giving up four runs on five hits.
On the flip side, Lucas Braun came on and did his best to keep Chattanooga at bay. For the most part, Braun did just that, completing six innings of one-run ball while striking out eight on the night.
At the plate, the Clingstones were only able to muster a pair of runs on the night — both scored by Kevin Kilpatrick Jr. The first run came in the bottom of the third when a single off the bat of David McCabe plated Kilpatrick and the second run came courtesy of a ground-rule double from Kobe Kato in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 5-2 game at the time.
The Lookouts would tack on to their lead in the top of the seventh to extend their advantage to 6-2, which held as the final.
(37-53) Columbus Clingstones, (50-39) Chattanooga Lookouts (POSTPONED)
Mother Nature got in the way of this one, as the rain postponed the Clingstones regularly scheduled matchup on Friday. It will be made up on Saturday, July 26.
(39-52) Rome Emperors 0, (55-36) Hudson Valley Renegades 3
- Harry Owen, C: 1-3
- Adam Kroeger, SP: 5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 5 K
There honestly wasn’t much to write home about for Rome on Friday.
Starter Adam Kroeger was solid and at least tried to keep the Emperors in it. In his 5.1 innings of work, Kroeger scattered three runs on six hits while striking out five. Typically, that type of start would be enough to at least put up a fight. However, the Emperors tallied just one hit — a single off the bat of Harry Owen — as they would be shutout in the 3-0 loss on the night.
(47-45) Augusta GreenJackets 2, (51-42) Hickory Crawdads 5
- Nick Montgomery, C: 3-4, RBI
- Douglas Glod, LF: 1-2, 2B
- Jacob Shafer, SP: 4 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 BB
In what was a widespread theme for teams down on the farm on Friday, Augusta was handed a 5-2 loss after the offense stalled out.
The GreenJackets actually got off to a solid start in this one by playing two runs in the top of the first inning. Luis Guanipa and Nick Montgomery both plated runs via RBI-singles to give Augusta an early 2-0 lead.
Starter Jacob Shafer gave up two runs in four innings on the mound as Hickory managed to tie the game in the bottom of the second.
The Crawdads added on to their lead by scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth and one run in the home half of the seventh to make it a 5-2 final.
(15-21) DSL Braves 12, (12-25) DSL Dodgers 3
- Juan Espinal, 1-3, HR, 3 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB
- Yoelvis Betancourt, C: 1-5, 2 RBI, R, BB
- Dayner Matos, SP: 4 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, BB, 4 K
As the long minor league squad among Atlanta affiliates to come away with a win on Friday, the DSL Braves poured it on the Dodgers.
All but three players in the Braves lineup registered a hit in this one, with the biggest performances coming from Juan Espinal (three-run homer) and Yoelvis Betancourt (two RBI-single).
Starter Dayner Matos was solid as well in this one, spinning four innings of three-run ball, which would be more than brought to give his offense a fighting chance, which they clearly took advantage of by scoring a dozen runs on just eight hits.
