Jurickson has looked good while rehabbing after a lengthy suspension

(27-45) Gwinnett Stripers 8, (35-37) Charlotte Knights 1

  • Jurickson Profar, LF: 1-for-5, 2B, .417/.467/.500
  • Jarred Kelenic, CF: 2-for-4, BB, R, .216/.310/.327
  • Carlos Rodriguez, RF: 3-for-5, R, .295/.360/.352
  • James McCann, C: 3-for-5, 2B, 2R, RBI, .297/.331/.493
  • Davis Daniel, SP: 5.2IP 5H 1ER 4BB 6K, 3.28 ERA

Box Score

After falling behind early, this game was all Gwinnett as they thumped the Knights 8-1. Davis Daniel got the start and gave up a solo homer in the first and then really locked in for his final 4.2 innings. Davis didn’t have the best command but was able to get it done with runners on. He was relieved by Michael Peterson who was absolutely dominating as he struck out three over 2.1 innings of work. He’s held opponents not just scoreless, but also hitless, in five of his last six appearances. Wander Suero locked it down in the last inning and extended his run of dominance – registering his 12th straight scoreless outing. He has not been scored against since May 3rd.

Offensively, it was a strong game from everyone as the top eight batters in the lineup all got hits while the ninth, Conner Capel, got on base via walk. Jurickson Profar, rehabbing following his PED suspension, had a pair of lineouts around 100 MPH to go along with a bloop two RBI single. He’s looked very strong despite the lengthy layoff due his own mistake. Carlos Rodríguez continued his strong month of June as he went 3-for-5 with a run scored and is now hitting .333/.404/.431 this month. And finally because he’s Sandy Leòn, a player loved by the organization and someone I would not be surprised one day joins the organization after he retires, hit his sixth homer of the season.

(25-38) Columbus Clingstones 4, (36-30) Birmingham Barons 8

  • E.J. Exposito, 2B: 2-for-4, .161/.278/.161
  • Kevin Kilpatrick Jr., CF: 2-for-4, R, .197/.283/.224
  • David McCabe, 3B: 0-for-3, RBI, BB, .244/.358/.373
  • Blake Burkhalter, RP: 5.1IP 7H 4R 3ER 0BB 3K, 3.43

Box Score

Clingstones drop another winnable game and fall to 25-38 on the season. After going down 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, the Clingstones struck back for two runs of their own in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI double from Chandler Seagle, and RBI single from Kevin Kilpatrick Jr. to put the Clingstones up 2-1. That lead did not last long as the Barons would score two runs themselves in the bottom half of the inning (HBP, 1B, RBI 1B, RBI FO) to hop back on top 3-2. The Barons would tack on another run in the sixth inning to go up 4-2, but the Clingstones would respond right back and tie the game 4-4 due to a sacrifice fly by David McCabe, and this RBI single by Geraldo Quintero

Unfortunately both both Jose Cuas and Kolton Ingram would give up a pair of runs each pushing the Barons lead to four and ultimately giving them the win.

Of note, the Clingstones had nine hits but also committed FIVE errors. They left 8 on base, and went 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position – just an overall rough game.

(29-36) Rome Emperors, (25-40) Winston-Salem Dash – CANCELED

(41-25) Lynchburg Hillcats 2, (34-30) Augusta GreenJackets 3

  • John Gil, SS: 1-for-5, .244/.342/.316
  • Isaiah Drake, CF: 3-for-5, GW RBI, .259/.345/.373
  • Colin Burgess, C: 3-for-4, .293/.356/.488
  • Owen Hackman, SP: 6.1IP 2H 2ER 0BB 7K, 4.53 ERA
  • David Rodriguez, RP: 3.2IP 2H 0R 0BB 3K, 3.60

Box Score

An extremely well deserved win for the GreenJackets against a really good Hillcats team. Owen Hackman was absolutely phenomenal for most of the game, pitching six perfect innings. He attacked the upper zone extremely well with his fastball and used his secondaries well lower in the zone to absolutely flummox Hillcats hitters. It wasn’t until the seventh inning when the secondaries started to stay up and fatigue started to set in that the Hillcats were able to really do anything, for what turned out to be most of the game. Owen was removed from the game in the seventh and David Rodriguez did his best Owen Hackman impression and absolutely shut down the Hillcats the rest of the game.

The pitching performances were needed as the GreenJackets offense was shut down themselves all the way until the ninth inning. With the bases loaded and 1 out, Roiber Niazoa grounded into a force out to the shortstop to put the GreenJackets on the board but with 2 outs. Colin Burgess followed that up with his third hit of the game, scoring pinch runner Leiker Figueroa, and tying the game at 2-2.

John Gil would hit an infield single to load the bases again, but Owen Carey would strike out to end the threat. David Rodriguez would then retire the Hillcats 1-2-3 in the top of the 10th to setup this ending by Isaiah Drake.

(16-15) FCL Orioles, (11-22) FCL Braves – POSTPONED

(6-6) DSL Red Sox Blue 8, (5-7) DSL Braves 4

  • Diego Tornes, CF: 2-for-5, R, 2 SB, .286/.362/.429
  • Juan Espinal, RF: 0-for-2, 2 BB, R, RBI, .226/.429/.419
  • Gabriel Cesa, LF: 1-for-2, RBI, R, BB, .333/.458/.500

Box Score

Diego Tornes extended his hitting streak to 8 games with yet another multi-hit game. After starting the season 0-for-7 across 2 games, Tornes has hit .343/.361/.514 across those last 8 games.
