Atlanta Braves news and notes from Tuesday.

Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution provided a promising update on the injured A.J. Minter. The reliever threw a bullpen session on Monday and is set to make a rehab start with the Rome Emperors on Saturday.

It’s been a subpar season for the 30-year-old, who has put together a 2.95 ERA in 25 games. The long ball has been a major issue, as he has already surrendered five home runs.

He’s been on the injured list since May 30 with a hip injury, but hopefully he will return to form and give the Braves some left-handed depth out of the pen.

More Braves News:

Spencer Schwellenbach turned in a solid start during Tuesday’s 2-1 win over the Detroit Tigers. He tossed six innings of one-run ball.

Nacho Alvarez had a week to remember in Triple-A with two home runs and just one strikeout. More in the Braves Prospects Weekly Report.

Ian Anderson made an appearance in the Florida Complex League on Tuesday, where he tossed two innings. It was his first outing after his Tommy John surgery in April 2023.

MLB News:

Baseball legend Wiilie Mays passed away at age 93. Across his 22-year career, Mays blasted 660 home runs and drove in 1,909.

The Chicago Cubs placed outfielder Mike Tauchman on the 10-day injured list with a strained left groin. He is expected to miss a few weeks.

The Philadelphia Phillies traded minor league catcher William Simoneit to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations. Simoneit was assigned to Double-A Tennessee.

The New York Yankees placed Ian Hamilton (lat strain) and Cody Poteet (tricep strain) on the 15-day injured list.

Detroit Tigers reliever Alex Lange will undergo surgery next week to repair his right lat. It is unclear if he will return for the 2024 season.

The Minnesota Twins have placed first baseman/outfielder Alex Kirilloff on the 10-day injured list due to a back issue. He was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul last week, but that move was rescinded.

The Houston Astros placed right-hander Justin Verlander on the 15-day injured list with neck discomfort. The move is retroactive to June 16.

The Toronto Blue Jays placed shortstop Bo Bichette on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain, backdated to June 15. Infielder Orelvis Martinez was recalled to make his big league debut.

Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Luis Perales will undergo Tommy John surgery next week. He will miss 2024 indefinitely and a big portion of 2025.

The New York Yankees selected the contract of left-hander Anthony Misiewicz, and with an empty spot on the 40-man, there will be more moves in the near future.

The Arizona Diamondbacks claimed right-hander Gavin Hollowell off waivers from the Colorado Rockies and optioned him to Triple-A.

The Cleveland Guardians optioned first baseman Kyle Manzardo to Triple-A Columbus after reinstating third baseman Jose Ramirez from the paternity list. Manzardo turned in a disastrous 30-game stretch in the majors, with 23 strikeouts and a .207 average.

The Seattle Mariners reinstated first baseman Ty France from the 10-day injured list. In a corresponding move, the club designated catcher Seby Zavala for assignment.
