Atlanta Braves news and notes from Thursday.

The Atlanta Braves placed right-hander AJ Smith-Shawver on the 15-day injured list following his start on Thursday against the Philadelphia Phillies. The team announced that he suffered an elbow strain.

Smith-Shawver exited the game in the third after taking a line drive to the leg off the bat of Bryson Stott. He tried to stay in the game, but in an isolated incident, he felt a “pop” in his elbow, which ultimately did him in. He is back in Atlanta for further examination.

To take Smith-Shawver’s spot on the roster, the club recalled Michael Petersen.

More Braves News:

Chris Sale made history and recorded his 2,500th strikeout on Thursday night as the Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-3. Game one of the double header did not go as well, though, as the Braves fell 5-4.

After Thursday’s matchups, the club announced that southpaw Dylan Dodd had been returned to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Douglas Glod was grand for the Augusta GreenJackets on Wednesday. More in the minor league recap.

MLB News:

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired reliever Alexis Diaz from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for a minor league pitcher. To open a spot on the roster, the Dodgers transferred Evan Phillips to the 60-day IL.

The Toronto Blue Jays traded reliever Josh Walker to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for cash considerations.

Chicago White Sox reliever Miguel Castro suffered a season-ending right knee injury. It is unclear if he will require surgery.
