Braves News: Charlie Morton Delivers in Series Win, Hurston Waldrep shines in AAA Debut, More

June 3, 2024 by Talking Chop

MLB: Oakland Athletics at Atlanta Braves
Jordan Godfree-USA TODAY Sports

After a less than ideal homestead, the Braves end it in fine fashion as the pitching shines on Sunday.

At this point, it seems fair to suggest the Braves will take a series however it comes without issue. And on Sunday, that is exactly what Charlie Morton delivered as he bounced back after a horrific outing to start the week against the Nationals. Yes, he did surrender five walks, but also only one hit and zero runs over six innings in a 3-1 win over the Athletics.

Another noteworthy development is that after the Braves scored nine runs in Saturday’s loss, they went 3-12 with runners in scoring position on Sunday. That may not seem significant, but with how bad the Braves have been in such situations in recent weeks, it is a noticeable improvement. Furthermore, the productivity of several hitters seems to be trending up, including Jarred Kelenic, Michael Harris II, and Matt Olson.

The Braves will enjoy a much needed off-day on Monday before they head out on the road.

Braves News

The Braves sent catcher Chadwick Tromp to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday after the game.

Bryce Elder likely had his most impressive performance of the 2024 season so far with 11 strikeouts for Gwinnett on Saturday.

The Braves certainly had more struggles than successes during the month of May.

Hurston Waldrep was very impressive in his Triple-A debut after being called up over the weekend:

Sean Murphy adding a productive hit on Sunday was another indication the Atlanta upwards could be on its way to better results.
