Atlanta Braves news and notes from Thursday
The Atlanta Braves announced that they have signed LHP Chris Sale to a two-year contract worth $38M. Sale signed on with the Braves nearly a week ago in the form of a one-year deal. The Braves have reworked his contract to pay him $16M in 2024 and $22M in 2025. An $18M club option for 2026 is also included in the deal.

“It actually all kind of caught me by surprise,” Sale said following his trade. “I wasn’t really expecting anything. I was just kind of excited to have a normal offseason for the first time in a while. Everything happened pretty quick, so here we are.”
“[The Braves] put their faith and trust in me and that obviously makes me confident going forward,” he added. “I’m going to be here for a couple of years, so I can get settled in and not really bounce around.”
Sale joins an already strong starting rotation, and hopefully, the All-Star enhances the Braves’ pitching staff even more.
