Atlanta Braves news and notes from Saturday
With Saturday’s loss, the Braves are only three losses behind both the Pirates and Athletics for the second best lottery odds. They are one loss and 1.5 games ahead of the Orioles for the fourth best odds, but 5.5 games ahead of the Twins, who are the next team below the Orioles. At this point, it looks quite likely that they will land in the top five lottery odds, where each spot is worth an additional 4-5% chance at the first overall pick and a higher floor draft position if the lottery doesn’t go their way. As a reminder, the Rockies, Nationals, Angels, and Cardinals cannot get a top 10 pick due to the CBA. The top six picks are determined by the lottery and the remaining picks are determined by order of record. Next year’s draft is expected to have a ton of high end talent at the top, so this will be worth tracking as the season concludes.
