A blast from the past returns for the Braves.
Fredi is back in a Braves uniform!
Former Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez will now be the third base coach for the Braves for the remainder of the season. Matt Tuiasosopo will head to the minor leagues as a coaching instructor. While it may seem to be an odd move, I actually am a fan of it.
Yes, there are plenty of extras dynamics and such with Gonzalez returning to the Braves after how he departed the franchise back in 2016. However, he also returns with plenty of managerial and coaching experience. Far too many times this season, some questionable decisions from Tuiasosopo have cost the Braves advantageous run scoring opportunities. Hopefully, Gonzalez will have the awareness to help create more of those opportunities, which the Braves need as many of as they can have.
I am not saying Gonzalez becomes a big part of helping the Braves offense find its way. I am saying he is a better option than Tuiasosopo for the third base coach job, and Atlanta needs improvement any where it can find it at the moment.
Braves News
The other big news of the day for the Braves is further detail on a hip injury that has been bother Marcell Ozuna. Alex Anthopoulos discussed the fact that Ozuna has been and will continue to deal with the injury throughout the season. While Ozuna has remained productive at the plate, it does seem at times he is limited, especially when on the base paths.
After their latest series loss to the Red Sox, the Braves are working their way right back into the early season hole when they really need to pick up the winning pace.
