Atlanta Braves news and notes from Wednesday

Well the Braves haven’t made their next move yet, but they do have a good bit of money to make some moves when they decide to. Perhaps the most obvious targets are shortstops Willy Adames and Ha-Seong Kim. They are the same age and Adames is probably better, but I like Kim as the preferable value, although he is recovering from a shoulder injury. Obviously the prize of the offseason is Juan Soto and signing him would be against this front office’s MO, but his free agency is a fairly unique one and they may have the money for it (and a free spot in left field). Alex Anthopoulos did share that they have been freeing up money because they think there will be some opportunities this offseason. I, for one, am intrigued to see what type of opportunities he was referring to.

Braves News

Garrett reviewed Darius Vines’ brutal 2024 season, which saw him removed from the 40-man roster.

Garrett also took a look at 2024 6th round pick, prep pitcher Ethan Bagwell’s debut “season” for the Braves organization.

MLB News

The notoriously reliable (lol) Jon Heyman reported that the Rays (yes, the Tampa Bay Rays) have reached out to Juan Soto’s camp during his early free agency.

The Cardinals are reportedly moving Willson Contreras to first base from catcher, as he is unlikely to waive his no-trade clause.

The Angels attempted to address their evergreen pitching problem, signing former Cubs star Kyle Hendricks.

Free agent Alex Bregman had a bone chip removed from his elbow surgically, but is expected to be ready for spring training.
