Atlanta Braves news and notes from Saturday
Spencer Schwellenbach looked like an ace on Saturday. He started this season looking like a Cy Young candidate and then had a few struggle starts. Look up now in late June and Spencer leads MLB in innings pitched, is boasting a 2.88 xFIP and a 3.20 FIP over those 110.2 innings, and is top 20 in MLB in fWAR. While he still hasn’t broken into that true ace level, he has real flashes of that quality and with him being so young in his development as a pitcher, it’s not hard to see him taking that final step up. It’s been nothing but impressive since he debuted last year.
