Atlanta Braves news and notes from Wednesday
What was another rotten day off the field for the Braves turned into a good day on the field, which has been too rare recently. Spencer Schwellenbach went to the IL with a fractured elbow and his return this season is very much in question. That may be the final nail in the coffin for this Braves team, as the rotation has been wrecked with injuries. Grant Holmes is the only remaining member of the Opening Day rotation who has not suffered a major injury, though Spencer Strider has at least come back from his injury and found himself. Bryce Elder is the team’s third starter right now and who knows who the fifth starter will be, if they even choose to go with one. The offense showed up with some power, including Jurickson Profar on his return, but there is substantial irony that this comes at a point when the rotation may be too injured to facilitate any kind of run, even if the offense can sustainably find its potent form.
