Atlanta Braves news and notes from Wednesday

Well the Braves got rained out of Wednesday’s game and will play a doubleheader Thursday. It’s not a bad day for some reflection after a rough few games for the offense, despite Ronald Acuna’s triumphant return. The Braves really need to turn it on here. They are 9.5 games back of the Phillies in the division, 3 games below .500, and 5.5 games back in the wildcard. It’s only the beginning of June, but that’s a substantial way through the season at this point and the Braves just haven’t been good enough. They have a pretty tough stretch that they are in the beginning of now and if they don’t figure things out they could easily find themselves at the bottom of a much more substantial hole than they are already in almost halfway through the season. They simply have already blown much of the margin for error they had from the talent on the roster. It’s time to put up some results.

Braves News

Ivan put together a really long but worthwhile reflection on the season so far for Atlanta and what everything looks like moving forward.

Austin looked at Daysbel Hernandez’ unsustainably productive start to the season and how he profiles moving forward.

MLB News

Veteran right-handed starting pitcher Kyle Gibson is signing a major league deal with the Rays. Gibson was released by the Orioles earlier this year.

Former Brave Nicky Lopez signed a minor league deal with the Diamondbacks, providing strong defensive depth.

Astros’ veteran starter Ronel Blanco will miss the rest of the season with Tommy John surgery.
