Minter allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning Wednesday against the Nationals. That was his first action since May 23 in Chicago. He’s appeared in 25 games this season and has a 2.95 ERA and a 4.86 FIP in 21 1⁄3 innings. Minter has been effective, but has walked the tightrope at times and has battled an increase in homers. After allowing six in 70 appearances last season, Minter has already given up five homers in 25 appearances this season. This leaves the Braves with two left-handed options in the bullpen in Aaron Bummer and Dylan Lee. Lefty Ray Kerr is scheduled to start Thursday’s series finale against the Nationals.
Herget was optioned to Gwinnett Wednesday to make room for Spencer Schwellenbach. He was eligible to return to the active roster to replace an injured player. Atlanta acquired Herget from the Angels on May 2. Herget appeared in two games during his earlier stint on the roster and allowed two hits and a walk to go along with four strikeouts in three scoreless innings.
Additionally, the Braves announced that infielder Joey Wendle elected free agency. He cleared waivers and was outrighted to Gwinnett Wednesday.
