The Braves are bolstering their bullpen with one of their most exciting young pitching prospects.
Spencer Strider has been on a meteoric rise through the minor leagues for the Atlanta Braves. After being selected in the fourth round of the 2020 MLB Draft as a bit of an unknown commodity coming off of Tommy John surgery, Strider started the 2021 season in low-A Augusta and he proceeded to blast his way through the minor leagues.
After brief stops in A-ball, Strider settled into developing at Double-A Mississippi and while there were some hiccups, he continued to put up big time strikeout numbers and recently he was called up to Triple-A Gwinnett once Mississippi’s season ended to pitch out of Gwinnett’s bullpen. There were whispers that Strider being in consideration to be put on the postseason roster for the big league club and after Strider was topping 100 mph in his relief debut for the Braves, it looks like the organization saw what they needed to see.
Sources tell me that after making another appearance in Gwinnett, Spencer Strider will indeed be getting called up to the Atlanta Braves. Whoa.

This is obviously big news not only for the Braves who could use another impact arm out of the bullpen, but for Strider who appears poised to be called up to the big leagues in his first full season of professional baseball which is…a rare feat to be sure. The current plan is that Strider will make one more appearance for Triple-A Gwinnett and assuming all goes well, he will be heading for Atlanta.
In 22 appearances (21 starts) across four levels of the minor leagues, Strider has posted a 3.64 ERA with 153 strikeouts and 40 walks in 94 innings of work.
