Inciarte’s six-year run with Atlanta ends

Following Thursday’s win over the New York Mets, the Atlanta Braves announced that they have released outfielder Ender Inciarte who was designated for assignment on July 24. Thus ends Inciarte’s six-year run with the Braves.

The move wasn’t surprising. Inciarte has seen a drastic reduction in playing time this season and while the thought was that he might accept an assignment to Gwinnett, there wouldn’t have been a lot of opportunities for him there with Cristian Pache and Drew Waters already there. Instead, he will now enter the free agent market and will look to latch on with another team down the stretch. Inciarte posted a message on Twitter and Instagram this morning thanking the fans for his time in Atlanta.

The Braves owe Inciarte the remainder of his $8.7 million deal for this season as well as the $1 million buyout of his $9 million option for 2022.

Inciarte appeared in 52 games with the Braves in 2021 while hitting .215/.276/.316 with two homers and a 61 wRC+. He made his Atlanta debut in 2016 and appeared in 607 games with a .275/.335/.382 line. Inciarte was an All-Star in 2017 and won three straight Gold Glove awards from 2016-2018.
