Introducing Landon Beidelschies
Landon Beidelschies is a talented lefty who has touched 96 MPH and has a big slider, though hasn’t held his velocity down the stretch this year. Unless he regains the velo and improves the changeup, he is probably a reliever – but could make a good reliever with some experience in the SEC. The slider flashes as plus and at its best the fastball is a second above average pitch for him. The change however is well below average. His 10.2 K/9 at Arkansas isn’t much different than his 10.5 career number, which includes his first two years at Ohio State.
First Reaction
The Braves keep drafting highly-ranked talent, this time a college arm that had some success in the Cape Cod League a couple of seasons ago. While Beidelschies does carry that reliever risk the Braves are confident in their ability to develop starting pitching, and will likely get every chance to start as a pro. With his two pitch mix and control he could be a fast mover and make a relatively quick impact.
