The outfield heads to a playoff-caliber team after leaving Atlanta
Earlier today, the Atlanta Braves traded outfielder Stuart Fairchild to the Tampa Bay Rays for old friend, cash considerations. The Braves designated Fairchild for assignment yesterday when they brought veteran catcher Sandy León to the big-league roster.
The Braves added Fairchild to their roster on March 31 after he’d been DFA’d by the Cincinnati Reds. He’d been with Atlanta since that time, outside of a brief IL stint in June.
In 28 games with Atlanta, Fairchild slashed a morbid .216/.273/.333 seeing action as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement in addition to the outfield. If he appears for the Rays, it will be the sixth team he will have played for since debuting in 2021.
Fairchild, 29, is a well-above average base-runner although his offensive output has been below average the last several season.
Fairchild had four doubles, a triple and two stolen bases with Atlanta.
