Atlanta faces a must-win series against the worst team in baseball.
Two-out-of-three ain’t bad!
For the first time since Joe Boever was closing game for the Atlanta Braves – not really, but it seemed that way – the Braves won a series and did so against a team that was above .500 when they won their three-game series from the Milwaukee Brewers.
Now the Braves host the worst team in baseball in a series that of upmost importance.
Atlanta comes into their series against the Colorado Rockies nine games below the .500 mark on June 13th. You don’t need a degree in mathematics to know that isn’t good this late in the baseball season.
The Rockies are the worst team in baseball by quite a margin and, baring some uptick in performance, they may set the record for futility in the history of MLB. The Braves won two-out-of-three in Denver earlier this season and with the repeat match-up taking place a Truist Park, Atlanta needs this series.
Atlanta doesn’t just need to win this series – they need a sweep. If the Braves exit Sunday’s match-up carrying a broom they would be six games under .500 with half-a-month’s of games left to play.
Suggesting the Braves have to sweep a series during the regular season outside of September seems ludicrous, but given all the factors that have led to this series in mid-June, it isn’t.
If you can be there in person, this is a must-watch series, even if it is for all the wrong reasons.
Here are the start times for each of this week’s games against the Rockies.
- Friday, June 13 – 7:15 PM EDT
- Saturday, June 14 – 4:10 PM EDT
- Sunday, June 15 – 1:35 PM EDT
