Rich Hill, 45 years old, starts for the Royals.
The Braves have lost five in a row to find themselves at an unthinkable 44-60 on the season. On Monday night, they’ll give the ball to Spencer Strider — the one and only healthy starter in the rotation worth a darn — to try and end the losing skid. Strider will be opposed by veteran lefty Rich Hill.
Strider has pitched well for the most part since distancing himself from the early season hamstring strain. He was not particularly sharp in his most recent start against the Giants last week, laboring at times over five innings in a losing effort. Strider struck out seven in those five innings but gave up a pair of homers in the fifth inning to open the door for San Francisco.
The Royals have hovered around .500 all season long and find themselves in contention in the middle of the American League. They’ll turn to Rich Hill on Monday, who is somehow still pitching in the majors at 45 years of age. Hill made his season debut last week and worked five innings against the Cubs. He didn’t have particularly good stuff, but he still managed to only give up one run while scattering six hits and two walks. We’ll see if the Braves can do anything against the crafty lefty.
First pitch is at 7:40 p.m. ET. You can watch and listen to the game in all the usual places.
