Braves unsurprisingly lagging behind in All-Star voting returns

Marcell Ozuna is currently a distant second in All-Star voting behind Shohei Ohtani to start at DH for the National League.

Major League Baseball released the results from the first round of All-Star voting Monday and unsurprisingly, the Atlanta Braves are lagging behind. The Braves showed signs of life over the weekend offensively, but really don’t have any players whose numbers would dictate serious consideration other than DH Marcell Ozuna.

Unsurprisingly though, Dodgers DH Shohei Ohtani has a commanding lead over Ozuna in the voting with just over 1 million votes. That is more than double the 478,000 plus votes that Ozuna has received. Ohtani is a unicorn but Ozuna has surprisingly held his own with only the big difference coming at stolen bases.

Matt Olson is third among NL first basemen but is nearly a million votes behind Bryce Harper, who received the most votes of any player in the National League. Ozzie Albies (4th), Sean Murphy (5th), Austin Riley (7th), Orlando Arcia (4th), Jarred Kelenic (15th) and Adam Duvall (17th) round out the voting for the Braves.

Former Braves catcher William Contreras is leading the voting at catcher with just under a 200,000 vote cushion over J.T. Realmuto. Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman is second behind Harper.

Phase 1 of the voting will end on Thursday, June 27. Finalists will be announced that night at 6 p.m. on MLB Network. Phase 2 voting will begin on Sunday, June 30 and All-Star Game starters will be announced on July 3 live on ESPN.
