Despite request, the baseball is continuing.
Like a recently ignited dumpster being carried away by raging flood waters, the Atlanta Braves 2025 season continues on this week as they head to Cincinnati (and then Bristol) for an unusual 3-game series against the Reds.
Of course Thursday is Trade Deadline day around baseball, with 6 pm ET today being the last time teams can directly acquire talent from other teams, which for the Braves, means today is the last day they can sell off any of their rental (or other) pieces to a potential contender. First pitch in Cincinnati tonight is an hour after the trade deadline passes so we won’t know which players will physically be available for this game until basically the game starts, and even then there will be uncertainty. Guys like Raisel Iglesias, Marcell Ozuna, Pierce Johnson, Aaron Bummer, and potentially others are all on the trade block to varying degrees and could find themselves playing for a contender by some point this afternoon.
For the actual game on Thursday night, the Braves are sending recently acquired RHP Carlos Carrasco to the mound to face off with Andrew Abbott of the Reds, one of the more underrated LHP starters in baseball. Carrasco is 37 and bad and Abbott is not 37 and good, so like most other days, the Braves aren’t expected to win this game as the dubious award of picking number one overall in next year’s draft gets closer and closer.
Feel the excitement.
