Iglesias is one of many bullpen arms that Cubs could pursue.
In their search for upgrades to both the rotation and the bullpen, the Chicago Cubs have cast a wide net of interest that includes several potential starters and relievers. Rasiel Iglesias appears to be among those names, as the Cubs do want to add another reliable arm to their late inning options.
Patrick Mooney of The Athletic mentions multiple reasons for the Cubs to pursue Iglesias. These include his impressive and long-standing track record of success and being a highly respected member of the clubhouse. While Iglesias has struggled throughout this season, his stretch of recent success and strong underlying metrics are reasons the Cubs (and likely other teams) will maintain interest in him.
Along with the reasons mentioned above, Iglesias is also a “rental” due to being a free agent after this season. This means the cost to acquire him will likely be a bit less than other arms of his caliber that are controllable beyond this year. Of course, he also comes with a hefty price tag in terms of dollars owed, so it will be interesting to see how the Braves handle the money owed to him if he is traded. Nonetheless, the Cubs will likely be one of several teams to have interest in the veteran closer, so he will be one of the more intriguing Braves to watch as we get closer to the deadline.
