This pic is as close to a running Matt Olson as I could get
A common complaint that I overhear in sports bars and stadiums is how they could much faster they could run that the athletes they are watching. At the last football game that I attended, a guy proclaimed for about 30 rows “I could have ran through that hole for a first down.” You want to say, “sir, you’re seventy, and no I don’t think you need another beer.” But you don’t because you don’t have to say everything on your mind.
So I’m not going to compare my athletic prowess or lack thereof against anybody but I think a healthy Marcell Ozuna scores on this play, regardless of the slide. It’s not in this video but Matt had to work around the third baseman on this play, and maybe Marcell is not nice enough to do that. Statcast has Matt’s sprint speed at 25.3 feet per second and Marcell’s at 25.1. But in 2024, Ozuna had a .2 advantage. Doesn’t really matter, they slow compared to other MLB players.
