Both former big leagues will look to latch on elsewhere.
Veteran infielder/outfielder Garrett Cooper and right-handed pitcher Jordan Weems have been released by the Atlanta Braves organization according to the transactions page of the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers.
Cooper, 34, is an eight-year MLB veteran with experience at first base and in the corner outfield. He’d struggled with a .621 OPS in 35 games with the Stripers this season with only two home runs and 33 strikeouts.
The 2022 All-Star came to Atlanta with an outside shot to win a bench role with the big league club during Spring Training and to offer the organizational depth at first base.
He saw limited MLB action in 2024 with the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox appearing in 36 games total.
Weems, 32, was brought in to add organizational bullpen depth coming this past off-season after being a staple of the Washington Nationals bullpen from 2022 to 2024. His struggles in 41 games last season carried over to his time at Triple-A in 2025, as carried a 5.09 ERA in 14 appearances with 10 walks and 18 strikeouts across 17.2 innings for Gwinnett.
Weems, a Columbus, Ga. native, debuted in 2020 after being a third round draft choice in 2011 by the Red Sox. He debuted with the Oakland A’s and also pitched for the Arizona Diamondbacks. His best season was in 2023 with the Nationals when he pitched in 51 games, all in relief.
